Flickr breaks the ten million geotagged photos milestone, again.

Firefoxscreensnapz001-1

A few weeks back I said that Flickr hit the 10,000,000 geotagged photo mark, well we’ve done it again. Only this time it’s the 10 million public photos mark …

Public geotagged photos: 10,083,139
All geotagged photos: 13,740,343

Some quick sums gives us … hummm …

57 Days since that last post.
3,740,284 new geotagged photos in 57 days.
About 65,619 per day.
2,734 per hour.
45 per minute.
1 newly geotagged photo every 1.333 seconds

Which means …
a) geotagging rate is going up slightly.
b) I need to make a slightly wider background image to display the total.
c) and, get rid of paging on the main map and do something else instead.

  1. To get rid of paging (which is a pain) would it be an idea to show the most interesting (in a Flickr way) photos first, and as you zoom in show more of the less interesting ones.

That’s the way that this guy (http://kmlphotos.metaltoad.com/) seems to do it and I think it works a treat.
