SXSW 2006, Mapping Slides now online

My brutally sparse Mapping Panel slides are now online. They’re designed to be shown fullscreen 800×600, please excuse the tiled background!

I’ll post the Podcast as soon as it’s online.

I’m going to be using this blog to expand on most of the themes in these slides, so the longer you’ve left it to find this blog the more info there’ll be!

  1. Does this mean no more geoblogging of Flickr photos via this page? That’s too bad, I liked that service and used it a lot. I couldn’t make any sense of your slide show, in any case. Are there any other pages that will link up with Flickr so that I can continue geoblogging my Flickr photos?

  2. From the zonetag help:

thanks, you rock! Please follow the tag format used by geobloggers (for example “geo:lat=37.3199” and “geo:lon=-121.8892”).

You might want to have a talk with them about geo:lon/geo:long…

  3. I liked very much your analysis on geotagging. having experienced it a bit for some month now the major problems are related to the tagging format, the actual names for tags, and on the other hand tag searching.
Geotagging would greatly benefit from harmonized names/formats (i.e. the lon/long issue amongst others). Are you aware of any upcoming standard for this? THen comes the problem of tag searching, like in a nearby area…and here regexp or similar would be just great!…I wonder when flickr will support regexp-based search/feeds.
